Suburban Basement will request a water test if the repairs you received require it.

The “water test” or “water leak test” helps to ensure that the repair was effective. Some cracks require a touch-up to completely seal the area sufficiently.

This is especially important if you intend to finish or refinish the repaired area. When possible, we ask for the test to be performed 2 days in a row to properly emulate a heavy rain.

⛔  Do Not Perform a Water Test the same day as the repair  ⛔

  1. Note the “before” condition of the area. It might help to take a picture.
  2. Place a garden hose outside, directly adjacent to the repaired area.
  3. Run the water for about 30 minutes.
  4. Check the repaired area for leaks or changes.
  5. If a Leak is found complete step 5, if not skip to step 6.
    • Note the time it took for the leak to appear after starting the test.
    • Feel the wall to see if it “feels” damp or just looks that way.
    • Mark the wall (chalk, crayons or painters tape work well for this).
    • Take a picture or note the change you see (pictures are most helpful).
  6. Report your findings to Suburban Basement
    • Pictures and findings can be texted to 586-465-5500
